Taylor Lautner As Young Wolverine? Hugh Jackman Isn't Convinced!
Would you buy Taylor Lautner as a young version of Wolverine? And how do you think Hugh Jackman would feel about it?
Although Lautner was briefly rumored for a role in director Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class," it seems that the "Twilight" star doesn't have any immediate plans to enroll at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters anytime soon. But E! Online had the opportunity to speak with Hugh Jackman recently, asking the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" star how he would feel if Lautner was ever tapped to play a teenage Logan in an "X-Men" film.
"My only question is," Jackman responded, "can he grow mutton chops?"
Certainly, the role of Wolverine requires a significantly hairier presence than Lautner brings to the table, despite his werewolf character in the "Twilight" franchise. Jackman acknowledged that fact, saying that Lautner's fans would probably prefer their "Twilight" idol to remain relatively hair-free.
"Actually, I think people would probably prefer him as a hairless Wolverine than a rather hairy-chested version," the actor said with a laugh. "Certainly about a billion young girls would."
Jackman was also asked about the possibility of Wolverine appearing in "The Avengers" when the Marvel Studios flick arrives in theaters in 2012.
"I haven't gotten any phone calls yet," he answered. "But you never know. He could [appear] but you never know if someone else could have been called to play Wolverine."
The possibility of Wolverine getting recast isn't terribly likely, though it's even less likely that the clawed mutant will appear alongside Iron Man, Captain America and Thor due to the X-Men rights being held by 20th Century Fox, while "The Avengers" is distributed by Paramount.
