DEXTER SAYS GOODBYE

Season 4 of Dexter ended with — SPOILER ALERT for all you slowpokes! — Dexter discovering his wife's dead body. Season 5 (premiering Sept. 26 on Showtime) picks up right in the bloody aftermath, as our serial-killer protagonist (Michael C. Hall, center) must bury Rita and assume the role of single dad — all while battling his guilty conscience. ''By the nature of what he does, people around him tend to get hurt,'' says exec producer Chip Johannessen. ''He denied that all through season 4, and he can't deny it any longer.'' —Dan Snierson

Mel Gibson has found a new friend! Britney Spears

Mel Gibson has appeared to find solace and peace knowing that there happens to be one person in the world of entertainment who is more delusional and absurdly off-the-wall than himself. This person is his new counselor and therapist - Britney Spears
.

The 28-year-old iconic symbol of pop stardom has seemingly taken the 54-year-old raving lunatic under her wing.

The two have been spending considerable amounts of time together, talking, sharing secrets, and most likely paving a straight path to the first documented case of celebrity shared psychotic disorder.

Britney, according to In Touch Weekly, has been telling friends that Mel has been pouring his heart out to her over long, late night phone calls. Gibson is scared for his sanity and terrified about the impact his scandal will have on his career. All things Ms. Spears can relate to.

Friends of Britney have also shared that the main reason Spears is guiding Mr. Gibson is because she feels she owes some sort of debt to him. Back when Britney went through her big breakdown, Mel was her pillar of strength when he went out of his way to help Ms. Spears get back on her feet.

Also, from the chatter of Britney's inner circle, it seems Britney wants the world to give Mel a second chance the way they did for her.

"Vampire Diaries" at Comic Con

Just moments ago the "Vampire Diaries" panel concluded at Comic-Con 2010 and we're here with your minute-by-minute report. Between the laughs, sarcastic comments (cgi abs, anyone?) and uber attractiveness of the cast gracing the stage (Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Michael Trevino, Stephen R. McQueen and Matt Davis. Plus, executive producers/writers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec), it was hard for us to pick out our favorite part!

4:30pm Marcos Siega, who has directed several episodes (as well as "True Blood" and other shows) moderates. A Season 1 sizzle reel opens the panel.

4:35 Ian's arrival gets the biggest cheer, followed by Paul and Nina.

4:39 Kevin won't give away whether Jeremy is going to be a vampire or not. "It's the whole fun of the return."

4:40 Julie Plec says that Tyler's mom will step in as interim mayor now that her husband is dead. Kevin said fans of the book know about the Lockwood family curse, which Tyler will learn about this season. "His uncle comes to town for the funeral... He may hold a lot of answers."

4:42 "I take my clothes off all the time," Ian says to great cheers as Kevin wonders which cast member should follow suit. The mention of Damon and Elena together, as a possibility, gets huge cheers.

4:43 Kevin said Stefan and Katherine will come face to face in the very first episode. "Katherine is a pimp," proclaims Nina. She said she likes to play "a bad girl" and "break hearts." Kevin says it's "freaky and scary" how good she is as Katherine.

4:44 Paul thinks the temptation for living blood will "never escape" Stefan. Kevin won't say whether he'll turn evil. "I'll teach you Paul," says Ian. HA!

4:45 Ian says "the nice Damon freaks me out. I don't know how to do it well." He said his favorite scenes are "the fun nutty kind of Damon."

4:46 Julie says Paul's hair has "it's own number on the call sheet." Nina adds that it's helicoptered in. Kevin says he has the best abs. Ian says they are "insane." The crowd roars their agreement.

4:48 Does Michael prefer Matt's sister or his mom for Tyler? "Why not both?" When asked "Caroline or Bonnie?," Steve replied, "Caroline" and then quickly tried to change the subject.

4:48 Paul hands Nina a Hershey's kiss. She wouldn't say whether Paul or Ian is a better kisser. "I'm the lucky one. I get to make out with them both."

4:51 Michael says he's scared to death because they don't want his transformation to look corny or to copy any other shows. Kevin says "it's really hard to fake that on a weekly basis," mentioning the werewolf movie he did once. "There will be a transformation. It'll happen. It'll be part of his journey."

4:52 "Anyone I date ends up dying," Steven points out. Kevin says deaths on the show have to come from "a place of good storytelling." He said Anna was going to be a smaller character but they loved her so much they expanded.

4:54 Will Damon turn good or more evil this season? Kevin said it won't be the easy answer.

4:55 Steve would like to see "Jeremy fight back a little more." Julie said his journey is "becoming a man" and figuring out "who you're supposed to be."

4:56 Matt would like his character to have a "filthy, dirty sex scene" with Jenna.

4:58 Paul thinks Stefan "should join a traveling circus." He enjoyed "indulging in the blood." He wants to see him "fulfill that vampire need" once in a while.

4:58 The panel joked about Stefan coming out of the closet.

4:59 "I'd love to do a flashback of Stefan in the 1980s dancing and having fun," Paul said. "I'm serious."

4:59 Nina said she'd like to see Elana "take on Katherine." She said she loves the depth to their characters.

5:00 Ian said he'd like to see flashbacks of Damon's past as well. "Front and center at a Rolling Stones concert in '69." He'd also like to see Damon get Stefan's bedroom.

5:00 Michael wants Tyler to have more time in the scripts (audience reply: awww). "It'd be funny to see some Lockwood ancestors fighting the Salvatores."

5:00 Julie and Kevin said there will be a lot more flashbacks in Season 2.

5:02 A fan asked Nina which Salvatore brother is more attractive. "Stefan is very attractive because he is protective and loves Elana unconditionally. And Damon is very attractive because he's fun and spontaneous." Paul declares that Stefan has bigger fangs.

5:03 The next fan asks which of the guys is least like their characters. "Paul is a down to earth, fun, chill guy," Nina answers. "Ian is exactly like his character." The two guys said they love making fun of each other on the show and in real life.

5:06 Ian said "I can't judge Damon" because that's bad for an actor to do. "It's an interesting journey with this Damon guy."

5:08 Nina joked, "we are actually vampires" when asked about how the special effects work.

5:09 Marcos said the fangs aren't digital. Kevin said they are careful not to show the guys talking with their fangs in.

5:10 Nina said they have black dots on their faces for the post production process. Paul said they used to wear contact lenses but the eyes are CGI now. Marcos said the hardest thing to paint in CGI "are their abs" to big laughs.

5:11 "You guys rock! Thank you!" Nina tells the crowd. Paul points out how many more people are here than last year.

5:12 Paul would love to play Damon for a minute. A fan asks Paul for the name card in front of him -- and he gives it to her! To huge applause, no less. We're wondering how much that will go for on eBay next week!

5:13 Kevin makes a surprise announcement! They wrapped the first episode yesterday and they put together a taste of the Sept 9 premiere for Comic-Con! In the clips, Katherine tells Damon she never loved him and tells Stefan she came back for HIM. "The problem, Katherine, is that I hate you," Stefan says to her. She stabs him in the stomach and tells him "that sounds like the beginning of a love story, not the ending."

Other Prisoners taunt Lindsay Lohan by calling her "Fire cro**h"

It seems like Lindsay Lohan is having a very difficult time coping to the harsh conditions of prison, and as a result has been stuck in isolation with much more hardened criminals. Ex-inmate Cheryl Presser, who was released from Lynwood Friday, told the Daily Mirror, “She is in with the killers and she has only been let out for hour-long breaks, and during those she was locked down to a table. Today (Friday), Lindsay got put on lockdown. While some of us got two hours to go to the yard, or the TV room, Lindsay was on total lockdown. She had a hysterical fit, crying and yelling so she got put in isolation.”

Cheryl said Lindsay spends every night sobbing in her cell which is keeping other prisoners up and not very happy. They responded by taunting the actress and screaming “fire crotch.”

As for the conditions at Lynwood, they are not very good at all. ““The wards are cold and smelly – they stink. The air conditioning is turned up so high that you can’t sleep because of the cold. Inmates try and shove the air vents full of toilet paper to stop the air coming out, but it doesn’t work,” explains Cheryl. “Lindsay would lie there shivering all night, crying and trying to cover her face with her hands. Her wailing was keeping everyone awake.”

It seems like Lindsay is likely praying her sentence gets cut even shorter.

New Mike O’Malley (Burt) Interview about GLEE

Mike O'Malley received an Emmy nomination for his role as Burt, a dad struggling to understand his gay son, in the hit show "Glee."

Mike O’Malley is eyeing an appetizing spread of lobster and spicy tuna at Katsuya, the Japanese restaurant as famous for its sleek Philippe Starck design as its entrees, when a young girl suddenly appears at his table.

“I wouldn’t normally do this,’’ says the girl’s father, “but Kendall is such a huge fan of yours.’’

Smiling, O’Malley puts down his chopsticks and greets his 12-year-old admirer. She compliments the actor’s performance on the Fox hit “Glee’’ and then walks away staring at his autograph. A decade ago, such a scene was almost unimaginable. After critics savaged “The Mike O’Malley Show,’’ dismissing the balding, slightly doughy star as a generic comic undeserving of his own sitcom, O’Malley wondered if he’d have to skulk home to New Hampshire, his career in Hollywood over before it began. How times have changed. O’Malley, 43, has just been nominated for an Emmy for “Glee,’’ the hit comedy that’s one of two primetime shows he appears on. O’Malley also has a growing film career that includes a role — written specially for him — in next month’s “Eat Pray Love,’’ the big-budget drama starring Julia Roberts.

“Talent trumps all in this business,’’ says “Private Practice’’ star Kate Walsh, a friend of O’Malley’s. “And Mike, as people are discovering, is very talented.’’

It’s taken a little longer than O’Malley imagined. Ryan Murphy, the co-creator of “Glee’’ and director of “Eat Pray Love,’’ admits he and many others in Hollywood overlooked the actor, viewing him as little more than a schlubby sitcom everyman. A few years ago, while Murphy was working on a pilot called “Pretty/Handsome,’’ about a father who tells his family he’s a transsexual, someone suggested he consider O’Malley for a role.

“I didn’t think he was right. I thought a half-hour guy was a half-hour guy,’’ Murphy recalls. “But Mike came in and was hilarious and heartfelt. He taught me never to underestimate people.’’

At Nashua’s Bishop Guertin High School, and later at the University of New Hampshire, O’Malley was not a kid devoted to the craft of acting. His father sang in a barbershop quartet and on occasion took his four children to the theater. But O’Malley wanted to be the Red Sox centerfielder, not a movie star.

“People ask me why I became an actor, and the truth is that once you get cut from the baseball team you need another angle to get women to pay attention,’’ O’Malley counseled UNH graduates in 2006. “What better way, you say? I know . . . be good-looking and rich. But I had neither of those weapons in my arsenal.’’

O’Malley got serious in New York. He wrote plays, took acting classes, and read for parts, but jobs were scarce. A friend who worked for General Mills supplied the starving artist with free samples of oatmeal, pancake mix, and Cheerios.

“The tale of the actor struggling to make it is oft-told for a reason,’’ says O’Malley, who lives in Los Angeles now with his wife, Lisa, and their children, Fiona, Seamus, and Declan. “In New York, you have to have something unique to offer, and I wasn’t sure I did. I basically wanted to be doing whatever Tom Hanks, Michael Keaton, and Bill Murray were doing.’’

His big break came when Christopher Guest, director of “Waiting for Guffman’’ and “Best in Show,’’ cast him as “The Rick,’’ a devout and dopey Boston sports fan in a series of commercials for ESPN. Clad in a Bruins jersey and a backward baseball cap, “The Rick’’ was a favorite of frat boys and, eventually, caught the eye of network executives, who signed O’Malley to his own show.

Debuting in 1999, “The Mike O’Malley Show’’ starred O’Malley as a guy not quite ready to grow up. The cast included Walsh, Will Arnett, and O’Malley’s sister, Kerry, a successful stage actress. The critics were not kind. “The eponymous Mike O’Malley gets his 22 minutes of fame tonight,’’ hissed The Washington Post’s Tom Shales.

The show’s failure — it was canceled after just two episodes — wounded its star, who calls the experience “a flat-out disaster,’’ the low point of his professional life.

“Mike’s kind of a modest guy, so he wouldn’t let on how much it really hurt him,’’ says Arnett, who went on to star in “Arrested Development.’’ “But it was rough. It wasn’t even my show, and I handled it very poorly. Luckily, I had my friend Mr. Jameson and his friend Crushed Ice.’’

O’Malley took a deep breath. He didn’t have a Plan B.

“That was almost the end of the story,’’ he says. “I don’t do stand-up, so I couldn’t take it out on the road. I was being groomed for this opportunity, and it was a debacle.’’

None of that mattered to Greg Garcia, who cast O’Malley in “Yes, Dear,’’ a half-hour comedy that was judged harshly by tastemakers but nonetheless survived for six seasons.

“With all due respect to the journalistic community, [‘The Mike O’Malley Show’] was a disaster because people like to latch onto stories like that,’’ says Garcia, who also created “My Name Is Earl,’’ on which O’Malley had a recurring role as a gay police officer. “Mike’s capable of doing anything.’’

No one believes that more than “Glee’’ producer Murphy, who says he had O’Malley in mind when it came time to cast the show. He wanted him for the pivotal role of Burt, a suburban dad struggling to understand his gay son, Kurt. Murphy says he wrote the part, which is loosely based on his experience with his own father, specifically for O’Malley.

“It’s a real tour de force role and I knew what Mike could do,’’ says Murphy. “This isn’t an after-school special. This is a working-class dude who’s not OK with his son being gay, a guy who’s having a tough time. It’s heavy and Mike has the ability to cut through the sentiment.’’

Impressed with O’Malley’s nuanced performance on “Glee,’’ Murphy also wrote a part for him in “Eat Pray Love’’ (in theaters Aug. 13), the film based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s best-selling book. In the film, written and directed by Murphy, O’Malley plays the boyfriend of a character played by Viola Davis.

“Mike’s talent is deep,’’ Murphy says. “I will always write for Mike O’Malley.’’

So, it seems, will others. O’Malley has a plum role as Lauren Graham’s old boyfriend on “Parenthood.’’ He had a small role in George Clooney’s “Leatherheads,’’ and he’s in the upcoming comedy “Cedar Rapids,’’ starring Ed Helms of “The Hangover,’’ John C. Reilly, Sigourney Weaver, and Rob Corddry.

“Mike plays a really sycophantic [expletive], and somehow gives the character warmth and charm,’’ says Helms, who had a hand in casting O’Malley. “I always thought he was capable, but he’s also a cool guy, which is important when you’re all bundled up and shooting in Ann Arbor.’’

Friends and colleagues agree that O’Malley’s personality — laid back, loyal, and unaffected — may be his greatest strength, even more than his acting chops.

“We were on a dudes roadtrip once, walking through Arlington National Cemetery, when some guy starts yelling, ‘Hey, Jimmy!’ ’’ says Buffalo Tom singer Bill Janovitz, a confidant and occasional collaborator of O’Malley’s for more than a decade. “That was Mike’s character’s name on ‘Yes, Dear,’ and here’s this guy yelling it across the memorial. It was bizarre.’’

Ask O’Malley about his improbable second act, which now includes an Emmy nomination for outstanding guest actor in a comedy, and he cites the Red Sox.

“Look at Darnell McDonald,’’ O’Malley says, referring to the little-known outfielder who’s shown a flair for the dramatic this season. “The guy hits a walk-off and it’s game over. You never know how the story ends.’’

GLSEN to Honor "Modern Family"

Fresh off the heels of scoring 14 Emmy nominations, the cast of “Modern Family” has another reason to celebrate: They will be honored by GLSEN - the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, during its sixth annual Respect Awards in Los Angeles.

The hit freshman comedy will be honored for its portrayals of positive images and story lines that reflect a diverse America, including the depiction of a family headed by a gay couple, the organization said.

Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) have won over audiences for their antics as first-time parents who often get themselves into clumsy situations, usually involving raising baby Lily.

Both Stonestreet and Furguson garnered nominations for their roles.

New shows like “Modern Family” and “Glee” have received applause for continuing to tackle storylines revolving their respective gay characters.

“One of the wonderful things is we can talk about multiple shows out there like ‘Glee’ and ‘Modern Family’ that are touching on a lot of topics,” said the groups spokesman, Daryl Presgraves. “With ‘Modern Family’ we thought it was a show that really touched on the subjects that dovetail with what we stand for. [For example] inclusion - especially one that shows a gay family. It brings in a bit of a sense of something you don’t normally see [on television]. It really represents the truth of what so many people experience in their daily life. On top of that, it’s pretty darn funny.”

Executive Director Eliza Byard said in a statement that GLSEN is honored to be the first national LGBT organization to recognize the show.

“As a lesbian mother of two, I am grateful to see a show like ‘Modern Family’ offer an honest and often hilarious look at family experiences frequently overlooked or ignored in prime time,” she said. “From its positive portrayal of gay parents to its handling of school bullying, [the show] provides an invaluable window into what family life is like for millions of American youth.”

The Respect Awards will be held Oct. 8 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Past television honorees include Shonda Rhimes, Darren Star and Disney/ABC Television Group.

Michael Jackson Has Another Secret Son?

Insiders claim Donte Williams Jackson, who lives with the late ‘Thriller’ star’s 80-year-old mother Katherine Jackson, is the result of a fling between the legendary King of Pop and an unknown woman.

The 18 year old has spent most of his life being looked after by Alejandra Oaziaza, who has four children with Michael’s brothers Randy and Jermaine.

It was initially believed Donte was the son of Randy and Alejandra, but he was born just eight months after their son Randy Jr. A source told The Sun newspaper: “Michael was very close to Donte. We’re not even sure if Donte knows who his parents are.

“He’s one of the nicest kids you could possibly meet.” Insiders claim Donte came about after a fling in Las Vegas in the early 1990s.

Donte is the second alleged secret son of the legendary singer, who has children Prince Michael, 13, and Paris, 12, with ex-wife Debbie Rowe and eight-year-old Prince Michael II, also known as Blanket, whose mother is unknown. It is also believed 26-year-old dancer Omer Bhatti is his child.

Taylor Lautner As Young Wolverine? Hugh Jackman Isn't Convinced!

Would you buy Taylor Lautner as a young version of Wolverine? And how do you think Hugh Jackman would feel about it?

Although Lautner was briefly rumored for a role in director Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class," it seems that the "Twilight" star doesn't have any immediate plans to enroll at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters anytime soon. But E! Online had the opportunity to speak with Hugh Jackman recently, asking the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" star how he would feel if Lautner was ever tapped to play a teenage Logan in an "X-Men" film.

"My only question is," Jackman responded, "can he grow mutton chops?"

Certainly, the role of Wolverine requires a significantly hairier presence than Lautner brings to the table, despite his werewolf character in the "Twilight" franchise. Jackman acknowledged that fact, saying that Lautner's fans would probably prefer their "Twilight" idol to remain relatively hair-free.

"Actually, I think people would probably prefer him as a hairless Wolverine than a rather hairy-chested version," the actor said with a laugh. "Certainly about a billion young girls would."

Jackman was also asked about the possibility of Wolverine appearing in "The Avengers" when the Marvel Studios flick arrives in theaters in 2012.

"I haven't gotten any phone calls yet," he answered. "But you never know. He could [appear] but you never know if someone else could have been called to play Wolverine."

The possibility of Wolverine getting recast isn't terribly likely, though it's even less likely that the clawed mutant will appear alongside Iron Man, Captain America and Thor due to the X-Men rights being held by 20th Century Fox, while "The Avengers" is distributed by Paramount.

“Miraculous Year” will be The Gayest Show Since "Queer as Folk

***Warning*** This article discusses some potential plot points for the HBO pilot The Miraculous Year.

While the HBO drama has only been ordered to pilot as of now, a lot of star power is involved. The potential cast includes Frank Langella, Lee Pace, Norbert Leo Butz, Eddie Redmayne and Hope Davis, the pilot's director is Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker), and it was written by Tony winner John Logan (Red),

With that roster of talent it almost seems impossible that HBO won’t ultimately pick up the series for 2011. And that’s a very good thing for gay viewers.

Set in the theater world of New York City, The Miraculous Year is a family drama that has at its center Terry Segal (Butz), a gay man who also happens to be a Broadway composing genius. Around him revolve a large cast that not only include his lover Frank (Pace), but his gay nephew Cameron, as well as Connor (Redmayne), a young actor with whom Terry has an affair, Frederick Hunter, an aging Broadway composer down on his luck, as well as several other secondary gay characters. Additionally, Patti LuPone will reportedly play a Broadway diva in a number of episodes.
To quote Neil Patrick Harris from the 2009 Tony Awards, “this show couldn’t be any gayer if Liza was named mayor.”

Indeed, it’s been a long time since a drama featured so many gay male characters this prominently. While Brothers & Sisters currently has three out characters – Kevin, Scotty, and Uncle Saul – with B&S’ large cast, both Scotty and Saul have been known to disappear entirely for several episodes in a row. The same is almost as true for other shows featuring prominent gay characters such as Glee, Southland, and the recently canceled Ugly Betty.

Only Modern Family can claim to truly feature its gay characters prominently in every episode and even then 22 minutes of screentime is split between that show’s three different families.
But The Miraculous Year isn’t just noteworthy for having so many gay characters. What's truly significant is that it features such a complicated gay character as its main protagonist and it is around him the central drama of the show will swirl.
Based on casting sides for the show (these are portions of a script — in this case from the pilot — used by actors auditioning for different roles. Much can change about the sides, but they do give a good indication of what the show should be like) Terry is described as being a “charismatic, self-destructive composer” having “messy hair and beard. Body’s a wreck. Unhealthy lifestyle taking a toll. 40s.”

He also comes across as bitter, cynical and under a great deal of pressure as he’s attempting to mount an original Broadway musical he’s been working on for ten years. In other words, he's your tortured, brilliant artist, only gay.

His high pressure life "causes" Terry to act in inappropriate ways including sexually and by using drugs. Of course, this has an impact on his relationship with his partner Frank who has seen Terry’s self-destructive behavior before.

At one point in the pilot, Frank comes home to find Terry high on coke and in bed with Connor, an aspiring actor in Terry’s current musical.

After escorting Connor out of their townhouse, Frank confronts Terry.

FRANK
In our bed, Terry? Come on, I can’t sleep in that bed.

TERRY
It’s not like I don’t try! I do. I do try. But these kids throw themselves at me.

FRANK
They throw themselves into the house and up the stairs into the bed?

TERRY
Very much like that, yes.

FRANK
Shut the f*ck up.
It isn’t the cheating that most bothers Frank, but what Terry is doing to himself. When Terry tries to justify his behavior due to the stress he’s under, as well as what appear to be Frank’s own past infidelities and drug use, Frank says, “Stop. Take a look in the mirror … That’s what’s killing me. Not the f*cking around. That.”
But Terry isn’t interested in hearing it.
Shortly thereafter he delivers a scathing monologue about how stressful his life is – and how much their finances depend on his success.
Says Frank:

It’s all me, you understand? All those actors, all those musicians, our house, our life, the whole goddamn thing depends on my pencil up there in that room – so, YES, I f*ck up, I drink too much, I eat too much, I am unfaithful, I am selfish, I am back on f*cking coke, but that that is ME RIGHT NOW IN MY LIFE and I WILL NOT APOLOGIZE FOR IT…

Let’s just say these two are not Kevin and Scotty.

As for the show’s other gay characters, considerably younger and more optimistic is Terry’s nephew Cameron. The sides describe him as “about 17, sharp, theatrical, sunny and busting to come out of the closet which will surprise no one.”
He’s also best friends with his sister Lara who is considerably less sunny. At one point they have the following exchange:

CAMERON
I wish I could give you a tiny piece of me. I’m happy all the time. Which makes me stupid, I know. But I can’t help it.

LARA
That’s your gift, Cam. You’re the one who’s gonna get out of this f*cked up family alive … For me, it’s like … I’ve forgotten how to be happy.
While Cameron isn’t out at the start of the pilot, his sexuality isn’t an issue for his family. Indeed, at one point Mandy, his mother, thinks he’s going to come out to Terry (who is his uncle). Says Mandy, “This is so adorable! … I think I’m going to cry.”
But Terry is worried about how he’ll handle it.

TERRY
This is just the kind of thing I will totally f*ck up and ruin his life … What should I say?

MANDY
Just be nice. Tell him you love him and you’re proud of him … And do not introduce him to any of your friends!

He laughs.

TERRY
God, I remember when I came out. He wasn’t trying to, but Dad made me feel immoral. He looked at me and in his eyes … it’s like he saw my whole life stretching out ahead of me: a nonstop spiral straight down … Guess he wasn’t all that wrong.
The sides do include a later conversation between Terry and Cameron about what Terry was like as a boy, as well as a discussion of what a theater life is all about. Cameron, who dreams of also succeeding on Broadway, is a refreshingly sweet, self-accepting kid and a welcome addition to the growing pantheon of gay teens on U.S. television.

The show is also refreshing in its depiction of gay male sexuality. Indeed, in the scripts obtained by AfterElton.com, the only sex portrayed is between Terry and Connor, and it reads as if the scene will be handled the same as any heterosexual sex scene on HBO.

Given that, as well as the show’s handling of the other gay elements and the number of gay characters, The Miraculous Year stands a good chance of being the most gay-centric show seen on American television since Queer as Folk went off the air in 2005.

Given that this is coming from HBO, already known for the gay favorites Oz, Six Feet Under and True Blood, and with the talent involved across the board, it stands to reason this might just be the most well done gay series American viewers have ever seen.

Miraculous indeed.
